This column indicates the typical price range of this hotel. We use the following codes: E=Economy (under $50), M=Midrange ($50 to $100), U=Upscale ($100 to $150), L=Luxury (over $150). Please note that room rates fluctuate (seasonal popularity, special events in the area, etc.).

The approximate distance in miles from the exit to the hotel. These are calculations using GPS data. Distances along city streets will be somewhat different but this should give you a good idea of the distances to Discount Hotels near the cited Interstate exit.

Fit

Discount Hotels near I-40/85 in Greensboro offering  'fitness' or exercise facilities are indicated with an F in this column. If the hotel also has a spa, it is so indicated by an S in this column. Most hotels define a 'spa' as a large hot tub with built in water jets. In a few cases, fitness facilities and spas may be off-premises (entry by pass issued by the hotel) in which case dressing rooms are also present for your convenience.

Kit

Discount Hotels near I-40/85 in Greensboro offering a full kitchen or 'kitchenette' are indicated with an 'K' in this column. An 'M' in this column indicates microwave available. If the room also has a refrigerator, it is so indicated by an 'R' in this column. Many hotels have some rooms furnished with microwaves and small refrigerators but you have to request them. We list them only if there is not an additional charge (or so they have informed us).

I'net

Discount Hotels near I-40/85 in Greensboro offering Internet access are indicated (with an M for dial-up and W for wideband) in the I'net column. Please note that 'wideband' facilities vary. In addition to a network port (usually installed in the docking station), we suggest you bring along cables and your Windows distribution CD (in case you are required to load a special network driver). For 'dial up dataports', you would only need a modem and an RJ-11 patch cord.

About Greensboro

Greensboro

At exit 218 is the northern terminus of the new I-73 segment which follows the last segment of I-74 just to end (contrary to the Interstate rules!) just north of the little town of Emery. No where near a coast of another Interstate. This is a handy shortcut to I-85 southbound if you happen to be going that way.
At exit 219 you make the big merge with I-85 – probably the busiest truck route in the U.S.A. I-40 and I-85 share the same roadbed from here to just before Durham. And I-40 now will be using the I-85 exit numbers. Greensboro is full of historic sites (and about everything else, of course). If you want to read more about it, go to
CarolinaNow.

Visitors' Center - From I-40 eastbound take exit 127 to the US-29 freeway, exit at Lee Street (NC-6) and turn left.
From I-40 westbound, take exit 128 and follow NC-6.
Drive westbound on Lee Street (NC-6) to Elm Street (which is 1 block after Arlington Street) and turn right. Go 4 blocks (counting the streets on your left) to McGee Street, turn left, go 1 block and turn right on Greene Street. The Greensboro Convention & Visitors Bureau is a t 317 South Greene Street.
For more information phone 1-800-344-2282 (toll free).

Greensboro Children's Museum - They have many 'hands-on' interactive exhibits - centering around a realistic 'Our Town' theme - designed for children ages 1-10.
"Come use the ATM at our bank, drive a fire truck., sound the siren on a police car, bring a DC-9 jet in for a landing, experience a house under construction or deliver the mail in a U.S Postal Jeep. The 'Tot Spot' offers activities to stimulate even the youngest children."
Open Tuesday through Thursday from 9a to 5p; Fridays from 9a to 8p; Saturdays from 9a to 5p and Sundays from 1 to 5p. Closed Independence, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Days. Admission: $6; children $6; Seniors $5. Exceptions: On Fridays from 5 to 8p and on Sundays, from 1 to 5p, admission is only $2.
  For more information phone 1-336-574-2898.
From I-40 eastbound take exit 127 and follow the US-29 freeway to the Lee Street exit (NC-6). Turn left onto Lee and drive to Edward R Morrow Blvd (next street on your right after Martin Street). Turn right and drive to Friendly Ave (3 long blocks), turn left, go another long block and turn right onto Church Street. The Children's Museum is on your right at 220 North Church Street.
From I-40 westbound, take exit 128 and follow NC-6 to Edward R Morrow Blvd (next street on your right after Martin Street). Turn right and drive to Friendly Ave (3 long blocks), turn left, go another long block and turn right onto Church Street. The Children's Museum is on your right at 220 North Church Street.

Bog Garden - Features wildflowers, ferns, shrubs and many other plants and wildlife hardy to swampy land conditions. An elevated boardwalk provides easy access to the areas with less firm ground. Observation decks also help provide better viewing.
Both Bog Garden and the Bicentennial Garden are adjacent to CaldwellPark. See Bicentinnial Garden (next, below) for additional information.

Bicentennial Garden - So named because it was included in the nation's Bicentennial Celebration, the 7.5 acre Bicentennial Garden is a formal garden featuring flowering and deciduous trees, shrubs, and beds filled with mass plantings of bulbs and annuals.
Both Bog and Bicentennial Gardens are open from sunrise to sunset, year round, and admission is FREE!
For more information phone 1-336-373-2199 or visit their web site:
GreensboroBeautiful.
Directions to Bog and Bicentennial Gardens:
If eastbound on I-40, take exit 210 (airport exit), drive to the 2nd exit (Airport Road) and follow this free eastbound to Holden Road. (This is the last exit before the end of the freeway so, if you get to the end, you know you have to go back.) Turn right on Holden and drive south to Cascade Drive.
For Bog Garden: Turn left on Cascade, go 1 block, turn right on Hobbs and Bog Garden is on your right just past the park.
For the Bicentennial Garden: continue on Holden and the garden is on your left just past the park.
If westbound on I-40 or on I-85, take exit 124 and go north (towards downtown) on Randleman Road to its end at Freedom Mill Road. Bear right on Freedom Mill and follow it to NC-6 (Lee Street) (2 long blocks). Turn left on NC-6 and follow it (that is NC-6 because it changes names a few times) to Holden Road. There is a turn-off to Holden before Holden but if you miss it you can still turn right at Holden Road. When you pass Friendly Avenue start watching for the Bicentennial Garden (it will be on your right). To drive on to Bog Garden, continue to Cascade Drive, turn right, go one block, turn right again on Hobbs and the entrance will be just past the park on your right.
